GTA 6 File Size: How Much Space You Need
Short answer: Rockstar has not confirmed GTA 6's file size yet. Estimates start around 120 to 130GB, and with patches you should plan for 150GB or more of free space.
When can you download it?
Preload opens on November 12, 2026 for digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Physical copies are a download code in a box, so you download the game either way.
Will it fit on your console?
| Console | Usable space | Room for GTA 6? |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 Slim (1TB) | ~848GB | Yes, but tight with other games |
| Original PS5 (825GB) | ~667GB | Tight |
| PS5 Pro (2TB) | ~1.8TB | Yes |
| Xbox Series X (1TB) | ~802GB | Yes, but tight with other games |
| Xbox Series S (512GB) | ~364GB | Very tight |
The easy fix: add storage before launch
A 2TB NVMe SSD with a heatsink slots straight into the PS5's expansion bay and holds GTA 6 plus a full library. Install it before November 12 so the preload goes straight onto it.
- 2TB NVMe SSD with heatsink for PS5
- PS5 Slim console if you are upgrading
